What is the reason why we have so much racism in America?

Over the past decade we have seen multiple issues in America dealing with race relations. It is a touchy subject which if a person does not use their words wisely, they to can be identified as a racist.Some think the conditions of racial issues are continuously perpetuated by what is broadcasted in the media particularly concerning blacks. In your opinion do you think their would be less of a racial problem if the media did not televise it so often? Do they purposely try to stir up the people for media ratings?
