It is time for a change in South Texas according to the newly elected Republican Mayra Flores.
The Democratic Party has a new challenger who has emerged in South Texas. Her name is Mayra Flores, and she is on a mission to change the dynamics in America. A new historical moment happened last Tuesday for the Republican Party. She is a member of the Republican Party representing the 34th congressional district of Texas. The Representative is feeling more polarized than ever. A surprising note is, she is a Latino.
People have looked at the GOP as a party strictly of white leadership representatives. In South Texas the Democrats have run the area for decades. Now, a change has emerged that solidifies new problem for Democrats. Mayra Flores was able to flip the seat that Democrats held for over 100 years. Flores was able to defeat Democrat Dan Sanchez to claim her victory in a runoff.
According to Politico Flores immigrated from Mexico to the United States when she was six years old. What is mind blowing to some is her reasons for supporting the Republican Party. According to Flores she feels that “the Democrat Party took us for granted, they feel entitled to our vote making the same promises over and over and really not making nothing happen”.
Flores was born in Mexico but has been an American citizen almost all her life. Mayra Flores also feels that “South Texas has always been conservative we’re all about faith, family, and hard work.” This is a much different position which some would think a Hispanic would take in the United States of America.
The media has been so focused on Republican stealing the Black vote and forgot about them stealing the Latino vote. This can make Democrats try to reevaluate who to target to try to win votes.
Some black and brown voters look at the Democratic Party as a party that needs to earn their votes. What are some tangibles that the Democratic Party will deliver to minorities? What are the true motives for them wanting black and brown peoples vote? People want to know what a particular party has to offer, especially after voting for that particular party consecutively.
Mayra Flores also aligns with some of the same views as former President Donald Trump. Is this a sign that Latinos are switching to a more conservative position for the 2022 midterm? The Democrats have a lot of issues to address this midterm. Issues need to be addressed such as, inflation and high gas prices.
The Democrats have had a tough time this year trying to keep a positive attitude with the decisions by President Biden. It will be a tough battle that will involve a lot of planning to be successful. We will have to wait and see how everything turns out this November.
